Tethered To Sanity

Things are okay

A lot has happened since the last time I posted. I'll start with family stuff. It is now official my brother Josh is a dad--so I have a five month old nephew, whom I have only seen pictures of. His name is Beau. The mother is a real snatch. For instance, my brother was supposed to have him this weekend, but she said "something came up," but my brother can drive to Lincoln to see him. This is what has been going on since the baby was born. My brother is trying really hard to work something out, he has begun the process of trying to get custody of Beau, though. At first, I was very conflicted about the whole thing. This woman has been in our lives for about 6 years, and she has been nothing but trouble. She has lied about being pregnant before, and when she was pregnant with Beau, she would say that the baby wasn't his, but then she would say it was. It was terrible. So, at first I was sad that this was linked to our lives forever, but now I am okay with the whole thing.

My brother James got engaged on New Year's Eve. It was amazing. He and his fiance called me a week later to tell me about it, and I almost started crying like three times. My brother has had a kinda tough life, and now he has found love and I am so happy for him. I know that I sometimes come across as independent and not very mushy, but at heart I am a hopeless romantic. They will be getting married in September--interesting thing though, they are not going to live together until after their marriage. I think that they have a good relationship and it will work out, but for me I think that it is important to live with someone before you marry them. Whatever.

Ok, now school. Last semester ended up okay. I got all A's, except one B, and that was in my Brit Lit class. I was so excited when I saw that I got an A in my REL class, I was freaking out about doing well in the class for most of the semester. I think the funniest thing about the whole ordeal was that I didn't go to class for the last week and a half, but apparently it didn't matter because I still got an A. Hahahahaha! This semester I think is going to be the hardest semester I've ever had. On MWF I have an Astronomy class and the lab meets at Sachtleban Observatory Wednesday from 8-10pm. It isn't terribly difficult so far, but I have to do math and calculate things and Math is not my forte. Blah! Then on TTh I have class at 9, 10:30, and 1pm--it is an exhausting day. My 9am in Advanced Public Address and so far we have done jack shit and I think that it is totally worthless for me--it is going to be difficult to get motivated to go to that lame ass class. My 10:30 is Advance Composition and while I do not think that it will be very difficuly, it is going to be a lot of work and reading. Then at 1pm I have my English senior seminar on Jane Austen. The hardest thing about this class is going to be keeping up on the reading and not forgetting to post of fuckin BroncoBoard. For those who did not have to experience BroncoBoard, I envy you. It sucks. In my seminar it is essentially reading 300 pages a week, and then a midterm paper, and a final paper and campus presentation. Yuck!
The thing that is going to help me get to the end of the semester is the fact that it is my last semester of Undergraduate study, and then I get to move on! I am trying not to think about the fact that I have six tournaments left in my competitive Forensics career. It is kinda sad, really. But I am also really excited because I think that I have a good chance or personally doing well this year. I would be so pumped. Oh shit, that reminded me, I have to work on my All-American Application. Ugh.

GOOD NEWS!!!!! I have already received an acceptance email from Ball State University in Indiana! And they offered me an assistantship! yeah! No tuition and a stipend! While I wouldn't say that BSU was my first choice, I at least have somewhere to go next year. I have also applied to K-State, Bama, and need to send my ap to Mankato. I hope that I get offers from other places too, because while I am not the swiftest decision maker, I hate feeling trapped into making a specific choice. And, while ending my competitive career will be sad, I am ready to begin another stage in my life: coaching and teaching.

As far as Forensics is concerned, right now I have three quals, and have to relatively new events--they've only been up for two weeks. I have a prose, and a duo with Nadroj. I love them both very much, but because there is so much character work involoved in them, they will be the hardest interp I will have ever done. Which is scary considering that State is next weekend, then two tournaments, then districts. Oh god, and I also want to get up an Info. I want to be a six-bagger this year, so if that is going to happen I need to get up the info next week, so I can take it to the Spring Fling. Keep in mind that I have to do all of this shit on top on my difficult classes. I think that this semester may actually cause me to go crazy. I mean I've always been a little unbalanced, but you ain't seen nothin yet.

Contemplate this: Can you really keep in touch with people even though you haven't seen them in over a year? I don't thin that I buy that online blogs and social forums can make up the sheer mileage between human beings

I know, I know, I hustled at the end of last month get my other aps in, so I essentially just have to fill out the forms and copy then and put them in an envelope and they will be there. Kisses.
